Burns & Laird's replacement "Stena Nordica" delayed by storm

Port of RegistryGothenburg
Net Tonnage1160

From "The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated Friday 31st October 1969

IRISH FERRY SERVICES DISRUPTED

The "Stena Nordica," replacing the Burns & Laird Line Ardrossan to Belfast car ferry M.V. "Lion," missed her 10am sailing from Ardrossan on Wednesday because of bad weather the previous night.
Passengers were transported to Belfast via Stranraer.
The Swedish ship was prevented from entering the harbour on Tuesday night due to strong winds and rough seas, and was forced to lie off Arran for protection from the gale, and did not dock until 9.30am on Wednesday.

The "Stena Nordica" was again unable to enter the harbour on Wednesday night, and she did not dock until 6;25am yesterday (Thursday).

There was no damage to the ship on either occasion.
The M.V. "Lion" is undergoing repair work in a dry-dock in Belfast.

Future of Ardrossan Dockyard in doubt

From "The Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald" dated Friday 7th November 1969

FUTURE OF DOCKYARD IN DOUBT

There is a certain amount of uncertainty over the future of Ardrossan Dockyard.
During the past weeks, rumours have been circulating that the yard is likely to close by the end of the year.
But all a management spokesman would say this week was "Talks are going on at the moment, but nothing has yet been decided."
